The RSCni was setup in October 2000 to help ensure the FE sector in Northern Ireland was best able to make use of the networked services available via their connection to the Joint Academic Network (JANET) and to provide support for Further and Higher Education Colleges in their development and use of E-Learning Technologies and Resources. Since then further funding has been secured and the remit developed and expanded to support HE Colleges. The RSCni currently supports the following institutions:

The RSCni is a partnership between Queen's University Belfast (QUB) and the North West Regional College (NWRC). It is financed by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) contributes financially to JISC's activities.
The RSCni currently has 6 full time staff with backgrounds in network support, staff training and in providing advice and support for staff in the use and in supporting information and learning technology (ILT) in the curriculum.
The RSCni is one of 13 centres in the UK; nine in England, one in Wales and two in Scotland. The UK National Advisory Group for the RSCs meets three times a year and membership from NI includes David Kinnaird, Chair of RSCni Regional Advisory Group and Randall Thompson, Assistant Director of Information Services, Teaching & Learning Division, representing the lead institution, Queens University Belfast.
